WA2 Ragu O Ragula 5

Ragu O Ragula in Wild Arms 2

Ragu O Ragula, also known as Ragu Ragula or Ragu O Ragla, is a recurring optional boss that has appeared in every game in the series since the inaugural game. Known as "The King of the Monsters" and "The Master of the Beginning and the End," it is notably one of the most powerful and dangerous bosses throughout the games, usually requiring certain processes in order to get to it, such as reaching the furthest depths of the Abyss in Wild Arms, its remake, and Wild Arms 3, or gaining the four seals necessary in Wild Arms 4 and Wild Arms 5. It is also known for surrendering the Sheriff Star accessory when defeated, which boosts all of a character's stats when worn. This tradition was not carried down into Wild Arms 5, however, in which it would give out an accessory called The Omega instead.

Ragu O Ragula's signature attack, featured in each of its appearances from Wild Arms 2 onward, is "One Trillion Degrees." (In the original Wild Arms, it used a signature attack called "Volcanic Bomb.") This is a very powerful fire-based attack that causes massive damage to the entire party, and is capable of wiping out everyone if they are not well prepared.

Where Ragu O Ragula is located tends to vary between the games, though in most cases it's found in the Abyss, an extremely long and deep dungeon where it rests at the very bottom. In Wild Arms 2, it can be found in the Aguel Mine Shaft in Holst, and in Wild Arms 4, it was in the 19th floor of Etemenanki.

Starting in Wild Arms 2 and following in its subsequent appearances in each game, Ragu O Ragula would have its own special music as its boss theme, which is different in each game.

Battle[]

Wild Arms 2[]

Your party should be at least level 60 before taking on this battle, and Brad should have a max HP of at least 7000 or so. Head to Holst and enter the mine in the back of town. You have to head in a ways to reach the pyramid. When the path first branches, go E, then, once you cross the bridge and reach the railroad gates, go E again.

His Monster Card Shop number is 264.

Enter the hole in the N wall to the room that had a heavy ARMS chest in it, and there you'll find the pyramid.

Strategy[]

First of all, give everyone Fire Rings for the first turn, then Dark Rings for the next turn. After that, the best way to ensure your survival and eventual victory is the following strategy: Equip Brad with the Talisman and Raftina, then use Invincible whenever you need to heal him at all (He'll be invulnerable to any damage from the very start of the round, but he'll still heal at the end of it). Once he's at max HP, then you can attack with him however you want. As for the rest of the party, whatever they can do is pretty much gravy. Stay focused on the strategy with Brad, which will keep him alive through any single attack (as long as you use Invincible whenever he gets hurt, until he's at full HP again), letting him attack whenever he's at full health. Try summoning some guardians, using normal attacks to gain FP, however you want to approach it, but you'll have to use Boost with some powerful ARMs if you don't want the fight to last forever. Reader Dalton of Zeal told me that Ragu is actually vulnerable to sleep status, so give that a try to give yourself a few turns without receiving any damage. You receive the SheriffStar, but no experience or gella, when he falls.

Trivia[]

  • The redesign of Ragu O Ragula in Wild Arms 2,Alter Code F, 3,4 ,5 and XF was inspired by Zetton, the Kaiju in the final episode of Ultraman
  • Ragu O Ragula's name is derived from Buddhism, namely to the son of the Siddartha Gautama before he attained enlightenment, named Rahula or Ragula, while Ragu refers to Rahu, the monstrous ashura who lives on as a disembodied head and is believed to be responsible for solar and lunar eclipses. They are both related as in Buddhist scripture, Ragula was born on the night when Siddartha was to leave the palace, and his birth was signaled by a lunar eclipse, hence signalling the end of a beginning and a beginning of an end. Rahu is also believed to be the ruler of a period of time of extreme misfortune, and is related to science and the occult.
